Dear Team Managers-Adult and Paediatric Please find attached information about the forthcoming Children’s Transplant Sportshall event to be held this year in Birmingham. We are delighted to have the assistance of Birmingham Children’s Hospital via Sara Clarke and her team and we do hope that as many children and families will attend. Flyers have already been send to paediatric units and a number of special events have been organised to ensure that this is an enjoyable weekend for everyone. If you require more flyers-please advise as soon as possible. Children’s Transplant Sportshall is a fun event for all children. The event comprises of approximately 10 different hall sports such as running, jumping, height reach, obstacle races and a number of other activities and collecting scores for each event. These scores are then calculated to allocate medals. The children are in age categories according to their status as transplant or sibling competitor from 6-17 years and the SportsHall Association deal with the actual organisation on the day of the event. The wonderful aspect of Transplant Sports Hall is that siblings and the children of adult recipients can also take part. Although the achievement of the transplant children are amazing, we felt we needed an interactive event to pay attention to siblings as they are often the unintentionally forgotten children who have feelings and needs too. They support their transplant siblings year after year and they deserve the opportunity to be recognised as valuable members of the transplant community. Similarly-we need to look after the needs of children of adult recipients. Via Transplant Sportshall and now via The Transplant Active Project-we are moving towards inclusion for all. Paediatric units are currently sending out their allocation of Transplant Active Packs including the new ‘Join the Family’ DVD therefore this is a good opportunity to advertise this event and seek participants. If you have not yet let me know how many packs your require and discussed a distribution method for the Transplant Active Packs-please get in touch as soon as possible. Although Team Managers are welcome to attend Transplant Sportshall-there is no requirement for you to organise team attendance at Transplant Sportshall as all applications and entries are dealt with centrally. However, if you choose to collate team information and send it en-masse - we would be delighted. Transplant Sportshall is an ‘an all hands on deck’ event and we look forward to all help offered, particularly from adult recipients. Please pass on this e-mail to all of your contacts in the transplant circle. We are also organising an NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Workshop to which all Team managers are advised to attend to ensure everyone is up to date with current legislation. Thank you to those of you who have replied. This also applies to TSUK Trustees, Committee, Adult Team managers and team volunteers too so please can you let me know as soon as possible who will be attending.
